Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ student wins international water prize Civil Engineering student Lerato Moretsele has won the Stockholm Junior Water Prize University Cohort Program, beating entrants from 26 South African universities to represent the country in Stockholm. Selected for the quality of her motivation letter and technical report, Lerato presented her work on 25 August and came away with a potential job offer from the CEO of Rand Water, mentorship and internship support from Xylem.

Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ie awarded an Optics and Photonics Africa Scholarship Joshua Jandrell has been awarded a 2026 Optics and Photonics Africa Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The award recognises potential contributions to optics, photonics, or a related field. Jandrell is a masters researcher in the Optical Communication Lab at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University supervised by Professor Mitchell A. Cox.

International Trade Law students head to Geneva Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ies Arianna Lenghel, Matthias Lazarides, Olwethu Dikiso, Palesa Mampa and Kendal Wright will represent the country when they meet their counterparts on 23 June at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva. The team is heading to the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition, a prestigious, global simulated hearing of the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement system.
Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ies come up tops in Public Interest Law Moot Court Competition Sandiselwe Zwane and Anele Desi claimed the overall title at the sixth annual Public Interest Law Moot Court Competition, with Zwane also receiving the best oralist award. CALS co-hosted the final rounds, with Justice Dambuza, Deputy Judge President Sutherland, and Prof. Thuli Madonsela presiding as guest judges.
