This exhibition opens at the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Art Museum.

Join the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Arts Museum for the opening of an exhibition named Black African Modernisms (1940-1990). This exhibition is part of an extensive African art research project, currently being undertaken by leading African art scholars from around the world.

The project examines the concepts of modernism and modernity in relation to African art. The artworks by over 20 artists, drawn mostly from Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Art Museum’s permanent collections, will offer insight into the various ‘modernist’ approaches that were of interest to black South African artists from the 1950s to the 1990s.
