Join WAM for the opening of 'Hentie van der Merwe: After de Jongh' on Wednesday 1 July 2026 @ 18:00 for 18:30.
The event will be opened by poet and arts writer Johan Myburg. Free parking for the exhibition is available in the garage beneath the museum. From the garage take the lift or stairs to the Ground floor foyer.
This exhibition explores the artist's relationship with personal identity, cultural inheritance, and the enduring presence of history through painting. Drawing inspiration from Bloekomlaan (Avenue of Gum Trees) by the Dutch-born South African painter Tinus de Jongh (1885 -1942), Hentie van der Merwe revisits an image deeply embedded in Afrikaner visual culture and collective memory.
