Strengthening South Africa's Future AI Policy: A Reflexive Policy Dialogue: Session 5: Education, Labour and Human-Centred Deployment

Strengthening South Africa's Future AI Policy: A Reflexive Policy Dialogue

This post-conference Policy Dialogue is convened by the African Cyber Law Conference (ACLC), in partnership with the Mandela Institute at the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ School of Law, under the ACLC 2026 theme, “Resilient and Responsible Design: Governing AI, Expression and Digital Media.” The series extends ACLC 2026 discussions into a focused dialogue on strengthening South Africa’s future AI policy.

Session 5: Education, Labour and Human-Centred Deployment

What human-centred imperatives must South Africa’s AI policy deliver on in education, labour, and public sector deployment? This session examines what realistic, enforceable commitments look like in an economy defined by structural unemployment, uneven digital access, and significant public sector capacity constraints.

Presenters:

Prof. Anne Verhoef, Director, NWU AI Hub

Yvonne Baldwin, Founder, ELE-VATE AI Africa

Dr Martin Bekker, MIND Fellow, Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University
