Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ mourns the passing of veteran journalist Jeremy Gordin

Jeremy Gordin led the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Justice Project for several years.
Gordin had a long relationship with the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Centre for Journalism (WCJ), both as a mentor and a teacher for the Centre's postgraduate programmes, and as the head of the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Justice Project at the WCJ. He joined the (WJP) in 2008 shortly after its launch and acted as its coordinator until 2012, building the WJP into an award-winning journalism and activism programme that focused on the plight of prisoners who had been unfairly or unjustly imprisoned, or who had experienced abuse within the justice system. Through the efforts of the WJP, working with legal representatives, in 2011 parole was secured for Fusi Mofokeng and Tshokolo Joseph Mokoena, both of whom had spent 19 years in prison for a crime they did not commit.
Gordin’s wife, Deborah, worked as a mentor to the career-entry class in journalism and was a sub-editor for the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Vuvuzela for many years.
The WCJ is deeply saddened by the ultimately demise of Gordin who is widely acknowledged as a journalism mentor to many. Our thoughts are with his wife and two children at this difficult time.
