-

“Engineers solve problems and get things done!”

On 29 April 2026, the SAICE Johannesburg Branch hosted the Presidential Visit at the University of the Witwatersrand. SAICE President, Prof. Chris Roth, a lecturer at the University of Pretoria, shared his personal journey and highlighted the significance of SAICE in shaping the civil engineering profession.

He left students with a powerful reminder: “Engineers solve problems and get things done!” His address emphasized the importance of ethics, education, and heritage in civil engineering practice.

Prof. Roth encouraged students to take full advantage of their university years by actively participating in workshops, seminars, and SAICE events. He stressed that university is one of the most formative times in a student’s life. It is an opportunity to work hard, gain experience, and make lasting connections.
