Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½

Sarah Mosoetsa is the incoming Chief Executive Officer for the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). She was previously an Associate Professor of Sociology at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University and the Chief Executive Officer at the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS). Author of “Eating from one pot: Dynamics of Survival in poor South African households” and co-editor of “Labour in the Global South: challenges and alternatives for workers,” she has also published papers in several academic journals. Her recent collaborative works includes “Precarious Labor in Global Perspective. International Labor and Working-class History (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and “New South African Review 6 - The Crisis of Inequality” (Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Press 2018).  Sarah has worked for various organisations including- the Society, Work and Development Institute (SWOP), the Human Sciences Research Council, and the Development Bank of Southern Africa. She is a former chair and member of the Global Labour University, Chair of post-graduate School of Social Sciences Committee at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University, and chairperson of the South African labour Bulletin board.

Bheki Moyo is a writer, author, researcher and thought-leader with keen interest in questions of African resources, democracy and governance. He has championed the African discourse on philanthropy, contributed to the growth of many African civil society formations and has taken part in most of the continental processes of development and governance. He has written extensively on African philanthropy, civil society and governance. Equally, he has gained considerable experience in management, leadership and strategic roles over a significant period.

Cathi Albertyn is a Professor of Law and the NRF SA Research Chair in Equality, Law and Social Justice at the School of Law, Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University. Her research engages the role of the constitutions and the law in enabling, impeding or advancing substantive equality in South Africa.

Geci is a scholar-practitioner working in the intersection between people, place and technological change. She is an Associate Professor at the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ School of Governance where she is coordinating the establishment of the new Tayarisha “African Centre of Excellence in Digital Governance,” and hosting the African Civic Tech Innovation Network. She is also associated with South African Cities Network, UCT’s African Centre for Cities, and Singularity University on the future of cities and governance. Geci holds Bachelors’ degrees in Computer Science and Sociology (Iowa); Masters’ degrees in Urban Planning and Architecture from UCLA (Los Angeles); and a Ph.D. in Planning and Innovation Studies from the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg).

Keith is a Professor and acting Co-Director at Wiser. He writes about the cultural and economic history of South Africa, particularly the gold mining industry, the state and the development of information systems.  He studied at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ and Johns Hopkins and completed his PhD at Northwestern in 1995.    His book -- (Cambridge, 2014) -- shows how the South African obsession with Francis Galton's universal fingerprint identity registration served as a 20th-century incubator for the current systems of biometric citizenship being developed throughout the South.  In 2017 the book was awarded the inaugural Humanities Book Award by the Academy of Science of South Africa

Professor Kathy Kahn, Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ School of Public Health and Principal Scientist in the MRC/Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Rural Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt), leads research on adolescent health and development including HIV prevention, non-communicable disease risk and mental health, and on mortality using verbal autopsy. She leads interdisciplinary PhD training in Public and Population Health. 

Stephanie is a Research Chair of Skills Development and Professor of Education at the Centre for Researching Education and Labour at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ University. She researches international education and development, focused on education/ work relationships. 

Professor Volker SchÓ§er is a labour economist who researches educational qualifications and skills development and their impact on labour market outcomes. He is the Assistant Dean (Research) of the CLM Faculty at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½; Research Director of the School of Economics and Finance; and the Director of the African Micro-Economic Research Unit (AMERU).
