Postgraduate Orientation 2025

The 2025 Postgraduate Orientation was successfully hosted from 5–7 February 2025. A total of 1,310 postgraduate students RSVPed for the three-day Programme. The Orientation achieved its intended outcome by delivering an integrated, three-day Programme that aligned academic and student life activities, thereby fostering a sense of belonging and community among postgraduate students.

Welcome Day

The first session was hosted in the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Old Mutual Sports Hall (OMSH) and included the academic procession, ceremonial welcome, and an address by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation, Professor Lynn Morris. This marked the first time that an academic procession was held in the OMSH. Despite the logistical complexities associated with coordinating such a formal ceremony in the venue, the event was successfully executed, with more than 800 postgraduate students, members of the Postgraduate Association (PGA), and staff in attendance.

The Dean of Students Office played a key role in coordinating the programme in the OMSH, ensuring that all logistical requirements were effectively managed. Additional support from the EGO team contributed to the smooth delivery of the academic procession and overall programme. The second part of the Welcome Programme continued in the Great Hall and catered specifically to MA by Research and PhD students, providing targeted information and support until 15h30.
