Science Education

Strengthen your practical professional experience and develop areas of specialisation.

Overview

You know your science. Now go deeper into how you teach it.

The BEdHons in Science Education is a one-year, full-time degree designed for practising teachers who want to deepen their subject knowledge, engage critically with science pedagogy, and develop advanced expertise in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences.

Set against the backdrop of South Africa’s shortage of qualified science and mathematics teachers-where only about 15% of graduates come from STEM fields compared to the OECD average of 23%-the programme responds directly to a national need.

Supported by the Marang Centre for Maths and Science Education, it prepares specialist educators and emerging researchers to help close this gap through evidence-based teaching in chemistry, physics, life sciences, and primary school science.
