Need to know

International Students Office (ISO) Meet the team! Whether you are curious about studying here or you are already packing your bags, the team at ISO is here to help you every step of the way.
Matriculation exemption Applying for an undergraduate degree? Students with non-South African qualifications must have their school qualifications evaluated by the Matriculation Board.
SAQA evaluation If you're applying for postgraduate study at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ with a degree from outside South Africa, you need to provide proof of evaluation of your qualification by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
South African Medical Aid All new and returning students require comprehensive medical aid cover for the duration of each academic year.
Visas All students require a study visa. Find out which study visa applies to you, how and where to apply for your visa, and what to do if you lose your passport.
Fees and financial information Before registration, students are required to pay 75% of their annual tuition fees, the international registration fee (if applicable), and accommodation fees if they are staying in a university residence. Fees clearance is required from the Fees Office.
International Clearance If you are a new or returning student, you must complete clearance procedures at the ISO Office before you can register with your faculty and access Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½' services. These include a valid passport, visa and medical aid coverage.
Pre-departure checklist A checklist for students to ensure they know what is required before they can register at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½, such as a Letter of Undertaking from ISO, acceptance to study, proof of funding, study visa, and valid passport.
International Students Sub-Council (ISSC) The ISSC is the official student body representing international students' interests. We team up with groups across the University to run extracurricular activities that bring students together and build cultural and social connections within the wider Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ community.
Where to get help For student academic programme queries, your first port of call is the Student Enrolment Centre or the relevant Faculty or School. For study and work visas, foreign qualification assessments, and medical aid information, contact the ISO Office.
Keeping our campuses secure The University has 24-hour CCTV coverage and security officers on patrol. Mobile vehicle patrols are onsite to ensure the safety and security of Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½’ staff, students and visitors on University campuses.
Visiting scholars If you are joining Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ as an international staff member or a visiting academic, reach out to the Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships Office. Every international visit is different, and the requirements you'll need to meet will depend on the nature and duration of your visit.
