Clinic Units

The Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Law Clinic runs 6 specialized units headed up by Supervisors who are admitted Legal Practitioners . The units are assisted by candidate legal practitioners as well as final year law students who are allocated to the various units.
The Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Law Clinic consists of offers pro bono legal services to underprivileged members of the community who qualify for legal aid.

Family, Gender & Child Unit
The Family, Gender & Child Unit is run by Steve Tuson and Michaela De Sousa & operates every Monday from 08h00 – 11h00
The Family, Gender & Child Unit deals with all family and gender-related legal problems, including:
- Divorces
- Parental Responsibilities and Rights matters and guardianship applications
- Applications to rescind or vary divorce decrees
- Urgent interdicts or orders
- Selected maintenance claims with special merit
- Discrimination based on grounds of gender
- Applications for the appointments of curators bonis and curators ad litem
- Matters related to children’s rights

General Unit
The General Unit is run by Daven Dass; & operates every Tuesday from 08h00 – 11h00
The General Unit deals with general civil and contractual matters, including:
- Litigation on matters arising out of contract
- Legal advice on insurance matters including motor vehicle accidents
- Rescission of judgments
- Legal advice on matters related to consumers' rights
- Presumptions of death
- Litigation on matters arising out of contract

Labour Unit
The Labour Unit is run by Dieketseng Damane and Charity Dingile operates every Wednesday from 08h00 – 11h00.
The Labour Unit deals with different aspects of labour and employment law, including:
- Unfair dismissal disputes
- Unfair labour practice disputes
- Labour Court litigation
- CCMA referrals
- Representation at CCMA arbitrations
- Advice related to labour law issues
- Unfair dismissal disputes

Property Unit
The Property Unit is run by Mbavhalelo Mmbadi and operates every Thursday from 08h00 – 11h00.
The Property Unit deals with property related matters including:
- Evictions (Magistrate’s Court and High Court)
- High court disputes and challenges pertaining to property title, transfer and ownership
- Disputes arising out of lease, purchase and/or sale of property
- Housing transfer bureau claims and High Court review of Housing Transfer Bureau decisions
- Limited spoliations
- Foreclosure and executions
- Conveyancing referrals
- General property related disputes such as litigious landlord/tenant disputes, neighbour law, limited contractual claims arising out of property disputes, unjustified enrichment claims arising out of property disputes

Criminal law & Delict Unit
The Criminal Law and Delict Unit is run by Peter Jordi; & operates every Friday from 08h00 –11h00
The Criminal Law and Delict Unit deals with claims which include:
- Actions for damages arising out of personal injuries
- Actions for damages arising out of motor vehicle accidents
- Assault
- Medical negligence
- Police brutality, or
- Any other negligent or malicious cause
- Actions for damages arising out of personal injuries

Refugee Unit
The Refugee Unit run is by Alicia Raymond & operates every Wednesday and Friday from 12h00– 13h30
The Refugee Unit deals with problems affecting asylum-seekers, refugees and undocumented migrants which include:
- Litigating in the High Court where asylum-seekers and refugees have received unfair treatment in the administrative process
- Applications for certification to the Standing Committee for Refugee Affairs
- Preparing and representing asylum seekers at Refugee Appeal Board Hearings
- Obtaining the necessary travel and identity documents for refugees
- Obtaining decisions in respect of applications for permanent residence made in Gauteng
- Providing assistance to undocumented migrants with regularising their residence within the Republic of South Africa.
- Litigating in the High Court where asylum-seekers and refugees have received unfair treatment in the administrative process
