Pre-departure checklist

Get your documentation in order. The following points will help you plan. 

✓ Accept your offer on the
✓ Ensure you have a valid passport (valid 30+ days after your studies end)
✓ Request Letter of Undertaking from ISO - email StudySA.International@wits.ac.za with your acceptance letter and where you'll apply for your visa
✓ Apply for a Study Visa at your nearest South African High Commission, Consulate or Mission
✓ When collecting your visa, verify: dates are correct, it's multiple-entry, and it states "Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½"
✓ Obtain South African Medical Aid coverage (valid until 31 December) - see Medical Aid section
✓ Arrange accommodation - on-campus options available
✓ Arrange travel to South Africa
✓ Arrange funds for fees, accommodation and living expenses (Payment in advance)
✓ Arrange airport transfer to Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ or your accommodation if required
✓ Undergraduates only: Bring original school leaving certificates for Matriculation Exemption

When you arrive at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½

Step 1: Get a Fees Clearance from the Fees Office

Before ISO can issue your international clearance, you'll need to obtain fees clearance. Pay 75% of your tuition fees (plus accommodation fees if applicable) and email your proof of payment and Fees Estimate to the Fees Office. Outstanding fees from previous years must be settled before registration.

Step 2: Complete International Clearance at ISO

Before you can register for classes, you must get clearance from the International Students Office. This is a required step for all international students.

Bring these documents to ISO:

✓ Original valid passport
✓ Original valid study visa for Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½
✓ Medical aid membership certificate (valid until 31 December)
✓ Proof of payment (75% of fees must be paid and cleared in the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ account)
✓ Matriculation exemption certificate (first-year undergraduates only)

Step 4: Register with Your Faculty

Once you have ISO clearance, register for your courses either:

✓ In person at your faculty office
✓ Online via

Step 5: Collect Your Kudu Card

Your Kudu Card is your official student ID. You'll need it for:

✓ Campus access and security
✓ Library access
✓ Writing exams
✓ Sports facilities
✓ Making cashless payments on campus (Kudu Bucks)
